Who Can become a DSA Approved Driving Instructor

... You probably have seen the adverts that say all you need is a driving license, but it isnt quit as simple. You also have to have a passion for driving and training aswell. If you ahve any questions about being a Driving Instructor then email me and we can meet up for a chat to see if the life style is for you!?

The DSA also has the following critera:

DSA keeps a register of all ADIs. You'll be allowed onto the register if you:
hold a full UK, European Union or European Economic Area unrestricted car driving licence have held the car driving licence for at least four out of the past six years before you join the register when you qualify have not been disqualified from driving at any time in the four years before you join the register are a 'fit and proper' person to have your name entered on the register, taking into account any motoring convictions and any other criminal record Criminal record check You will need to have a criminal record check when you apply, and then every four years if you choose to extend your registration. DSA will take all offences into account when assessing your suitability to be an ADI. This includes fixed penalties such as speeding, as well as convictions and cautions. You can find out how DSA deals with criminal records on the Business Link website.
you will also have to pass the three qualifing test to become DSA ADI. These are:

Driving Instructor Tests

  • Part 1 ( Theory and Hazard Perception tests)
  • Part 2 (Your driving ability)
  • Part 3 ( Your instructional ability test)

Our Driving Instructor training course is bassed on the following prices:

Our Courses / Training are bassed on hourly rates so you can get the correect amount of training you need. We usually advise having a four hour block as this is the most effective way to learn and allows you to retain and gain new skills efficently.

  • Part 1
    • Part one is a homestudy pack if required.
All you need is the correct books and question pack with a little expert help! The price will depend on how much help you need which will be discussed at our initial meeting. Usually you just need to know what books and a reading list with some phone / email help and advise (inculded for free when doing your part 2 and 3 with us.) We can also help with mock tests, work books and provide as much support as you need. Another option is to come to one of our Theory Training course(run by our sister company www.TheoryTrainingCourses.co.uk. The thoery part is not only to pass your part 1 test but you will be using this knowledge to teach for the rest of your instructing career so make sure you understand it completely. They more effort you put into this part the eassier the other parts will be!
  • Part 2
    • Part 2 is bassed on two to three sessions (2*4 hour sessions - £280)(3*4 hour sessions - £420)). We also use this time to make sure your understanding of the dirivng routine is fantastic. As this will form the basis of your entire traning career. You must be able to drive well and understand all the process of driving in order to be able to teach / coach it sucessfully. As such this is not an ordinary driving training session but the next step in your new career!
  • Part 3
    • Part 3 is bassed on ten 4 hour sessions, depending on your instructional ability (£1400) This figure can vary alot as every session you have with us we will reccomend what to brush up on / recommended reading / preperation for the next session. If you put the time in between sessions then you will require less and reduce the amount of sessions needed. this method allows you to gain experiance and also allows you to do self-study inbetween the training sessions so you can maximise your in-car training time and minimise the wasted time. Ever session will be well documented and you will have a copy to keep with with a full list of suguesseted improvments and areas to prepare for the next session.
  • Total Costs
    • Are approxamatly £1680. We say approxamatly because we tailor our courses to your needs. The more relevent your experance and the more work you do between sessions (which we will recommend at the end of every session), the cheaper it will be for you. We do not make you do a minumum amout of training sessions (unless you are required to by the DSA - e.g. if you are wanting to be a PDI then you need to complete a minimum amout of hours). We just require you to be able to do it and meet / exceded the requirements. If you only need 1 session for your part two and five sessions for your part 3 then it would work out at £840.
  • Please not that we have not included the price of the book that you need to purchase (around £90) and the DSA test fees (around £245)

Why not take advantage of our free consultation?...

If you are thinking of becoming a Driving Instructor we can meet you at a convient place (quite often a coffe shop or your home) and have an informal chat about life as a driving instructor and answer any questions you may have

Remember dont pay for what you dont need. Some trainig providers are quoting upto £3,995 for your training! You may also be contracted into franchising with them at the end. Always read the small print. The latest offers can be for FREE training but when you look into it you are then contracted to work for the and be franchised to the for 2 years even if you dont pass all of the test. This could cost you a lot more in the long run! Some franchises are as much as £350 per week (thats £1750 per 50 week franchise!) Be aware check out all your options first.
